Spring Days are here!

Amish and horses plowing the field

Spring to Life with a trip to NY's Amish Trail!

Winter appears to be over with and new beginnings of Spring are happening all around the countryside.  Adventure from small shop to the next to find unique handiworks and learn about the culture of these people, who live separate from the modern world. You will find yourself relaxed and renewed as your cares seem to disappear to views of farmlands, open spaces, and charming backdrops filled with sunshine. You will see meticulous gardens, full of crops sprouting up and horse drawn plows tilling the fields. Look for freshly made maple syrup, birdhouses to decorate your yard with or plant your own garden after purchasing already started plants from their greenhouses. Follow hand-painted signs down the side roads to the Amish businesses where you can purchase a wide variety of goods, each made with incomparable hand craftsmanship.

While you’re in the area, make impromptu stops at an Alpaca Farm like Cardinal Acres Alpacas, Mager Mountain Alpacas or Simply Natural Alpaca Gift Shop to experience these lovely animals who become extra playful in the Springtime. Grab a foot-long and curly fries, with Loganberry of course, at Racer's Restaurant (716-988-3301) in South Dayton, or enjoy a Vegan dish at the Mustard Seed Restaurant.  If you're not hungry enough for a full meal, South Dayton Supermarket has quick snacks or get the ingredients for a meal at home (and the Duper Donuts!).

Explore the Seneca Nation culture at the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum in Salamanca. Shop at some of the "English" businesses on the Trail like Mystic Hill Olde Barn, Randolph Retail Company, or the Artists of the East Otto Country Associates.  Mystic Hill Olde Barn has 2 floors of country & rustic merchandise including local Amish wares.  Randolph Retail Company has everything you need to dress yourself up with unique clothing, jewelry, scarves, gifts, kids corner and more at affordable prices.  Or pick up the motorcycle of your dreams at Gowanda Harley-Davidson and see Amish country from a fresh perspective.

Make it a full weekend with a stay at the Seneca Allegany Casino, offering luxurious hotel rooms, slot machine fun, great entertainment and plenty of food options including the Thunder Mountain Buffet, The Western Door Steakhouse and Patria, fine Italian cuisine.

So go on a Spring Fling and plan a trip to slow down and enjoy the simple life in NY's Amish Trail.  Please remember to respect their privacy and personal property, and don’t photograph them, as it is against their beliefs. As you tour the enchanted countryside, drive cautiously and watch for black, slow-moving, horse-drawn buggies.  Need help figuring out where to start or go?  Give us a call at 1-800-331-0543 or schedule a step on tour
